Just now (23rd January, 2016 at 12 midnight India time) from CNN came to know that Washington, New York and New Jersey are facing heavy storm as well as floods. These places are closed for 2 days and warnings are issued fpr people not to come out of their homes.

In the natal chart above Uranus is closely conjunct Asc at 8 deg 21 Gemini. Natal Uranus is at 8 deg 53 Gemini.
In the progressed chart for 23rd January 2016, progressed Uranus is also conjunct natal Asc at 8 deg 21 Gemini. Progressed Uranus is at 7 deg 04 Gemini.
In transit too, transit Neptune at 8 deg 10 Pisces is square to natal Asc. Transit Saturn at 13 deg 22 at Sagittarius is in opposition to natal Asc. Transit Mars at 10 deg 27 Scorpio is quincunx to natal Asc. So we can clearly see, natal Asc is afflicted in natal, progressed and transit too.
Conclusion:
In mundane astrology Ascendant signifies general health/state of affairs of people, and also state of the country as whole. So any affliction to Asc will mean general health of the people will be affected by many ways, which can be by natural calamities, terrorist attacks, etc.
