Leaks associated with Israeli cyber-intelligence firm NSO Group’s spyware Pegasus have created global headlines and sparked political controversies in India and in other countries abroad. Investigations are going on in France and Israel too. A thorough probe is ordered and going on by Israeli Defense Ministry on NSO Group.
Israeli surveillance software company NSO Group has temporarily blocked several government clients around the world from using its Pegasus spyware as the company investigates its possible misuse, Washington-based non-profit media outlet NPR reported. The development also follows raids on some offices of the NSO Group on Wednesday by Israeli government agencies “to begin assessing” security breach allegations against the company’s Pegasus spyware. Meanwhile, French authorities have found traces of Pegasus software on the phones of several French targets on Amnesty and Forbidden Stories’ list – providing independent corroboration of this month’s explosive reports, a tweet by a Reuters correspondent said, quoting La Monde and an online investigative journal, Mediapart. NSO Group Technologies (NSO standing for Niv, Shalev and Omri, the names of the company’s founders) is an Israeli technology firm whose spyware called Pegasus enables the remote surveillance of smartphones. It was founded in 2010 by Niv Carmi, Omri Lavie, and Shalev Hulio. The Israeli Ministry of Defense licenses the export of Pegasus to foreign governments, but not to private entities. The ministry said last week that it will “take appropriate action” if it finds that NSO Group violated its export license.
The Israeli Defense Ministry has opened up a probe against NSO group to find out the veracity of the claim made by Amnesty International. In July 2021, widespread media coverage part of the “Project Pegasus revelations” along with an in-depth analysis by human rights group Amnesty International uncovered that Pegasus was still being widely used against high-profile targets.
The Pegasus Project is an international investigative journalism initiative that revealed governments’ espionage on journalists, opposition politicians, activists, business people and others using the private NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware. Pegasus is ostensibly marketed for surveillance of “serious crimes and terrorism”. In 2020, a target list of 50,000 phone numbers leaked to Forbidden Stories, and an analysis revealed the list contained the numbers of leading opposition politicians, human rights activists, journalists, lawyers and other political dissidents.
In late 2019, Facebook initiated a suit against NSO, claiming that Pegasus had been used to intercept the WhatsApp communications of a number of activists, journalists, and bureaucrats in India, leading to accusations that the Indian government was involved. Phone numbers of Indian ministers, opposition leaders, ex-election commissioners and journalists were allegedly found on a database of NSO hacking targets by Project Pegasus in 2021. Independent digital forensic analysis conducted on 10 Indian phones whose numbers were present in the data showed signs of either an attempted or successful Pegasus hack. The results of the forensic analysis threw up shows sequential correlations between the time and date a phone number is entered in the list and the beginning of surveillance. The gap usually ranges between a few minutes and a couple of hours. 11 phone numbers associated with a female employee of the Supreme Court of India and her immediate family, who accused the former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, of sexual harassment, are also allegedly found on a database indicating possibility of their phones being snooped. Records also indicate that phone numbers of some of the key political players in Karnataka appear to have been selected around the time when an intense power struggle was taking place between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular)-Congress-led state government in 2019. It was reported that the Indian government used Pegasus to spy on Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and diplomats from Iran, Afghanistan, China, Nepal and Saudi Arabia. Israel has established a commission to review allegations that the NSO Group’s controversial Pegasus phone surveillance software was misused. The defence establishment appointed a review commission made up of a number of groups. Pegasus has been implicated in possible mass surveillance of journalists, human rights defenders and 14 heads of state.
With the help of Israel nation’s chart and also of the India chart, will analyse the gravity of the issue and also analyse whether it will have any implications on Israel. Also, whether the Indian Government will be caught red faced in this issue. Currently, transit Ketu is in Scorpio at 13 degrees afflicting natal Moon in Cancer at 11 degrees and Moon being in the 10th house (as per placidus) signifying Israeli Government. Ketu’s affliction will be exact during September 2021. Before this period something revealing can come out regarding snooping from Israeli Government. This can also affect the image of the Israel as a nation. Till May 2021, transit Rahu had afflicted natal Mercury (significator of Snooping) and lord of 12th house (as per placidus) signifying “spying activities”. As per equal house system, Mercury is lord of Asc and 10th house (Government). Before April 2022, transit Rahu will afflict natal Sun in Taurus at 0.31 degrees in 8th house. Mercury as said earlier is also a planet which signifies snooping. Ketu will also afflict the natal Moon in Cancer at 3 degrees. The affliction of Ketu on Moon will be before March 2022. During this time the transit Ketu will also go over natal Ketu. Also, transit Saturn which is retrograde now, is afflicting the planets in the 3rd house till April 2022. Another major transit is of Ketu which is in Scorpio, is also on its way to afflict Jupiter the 8th lord in Libra at 25.52 degrees. Its affliction will be complete by mid July 2022. The 8th house is scandals.
